“You need to travel while you’re young.”
Ohhh I’m sorry you must be confused, I’m not eating Ramen because I enjoy the taste I’m eating it BECAUSE I’M POOR. I mean really? I get it, you wish you had capitalized on your youth and traveled the world while you didn’t have responsibilities but unless you’re offering me the finances to do this “traveling” you speak of just keep it to yourself.
Let’s be serious, I have a Pinterest account, I know traveling would be awesome.
“Start saving for retirement now.”
Again, super valid advice and I’m sure when I’m your age I’ll wish I did but there’s yet again one minor problem. If I start putting part of my paycheck into a retirement fund I won’t make it to retirement because I’ll be starving and homeless since I can barely afford my rent and enough food to keep me from looking like Nicole Richie.
“Stop wearing so much makeup, you’re so pretty without it.”
Yes, yes I am so pretty without any makeup…IF I’M GOING TO A PARTY AT RAY CHARLES’ HOUSE.
“Don’t settle for just any job, find something you really like to do.”
This is both the best and most hypocritical advice parents can give….because it’s usually followed by, “you should really start supporting yourself.” At 22 I can either support myself or do something that makes me happy so take your pick but isn’t your happiness as a parent dependent on my happiness?
